A day prior to the song's official release, on July 19, select people were emailed a copy of the song. On July 14, the band announced the song would have a music video. On July 7, they began to tease the release of a new song “ Middle of a Breakup”. They revealed the album’s track listing on June 2. Alongside the song, the band announced their then upcoming album, along with the 2022-2023 Viva Las Vengeance Tour. The song, along with its music video, were released on June 1. They announced the album’s lead single, “ Viva Las Vengeance”, on May 29, 2022. On May 14, 2022, a website launched under the name, signaling the start of a new era. On July 22, 2006, Panic! at the Disco performed in Denver, Colorado.
The song debuted at number 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and remained their highest charting song until the release of “ Hallelujah” in 2015. On January 16, 2006, "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" became the album's second single. The song received a gold and platinum certification from the RIAA.
The track performed fairly well, with it debuting at number 77 on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts. On September 27, 2005, "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage" became the band's debut single. Thereafter, Brent Wilson became the band's first bassist.
